As our homes go through the freeze and thaw cycles, it is important that we take valuable and proactive steps to prevent issues. Due to the tilt of the Earth’s axis, the northern hemisphere begins to see the winter-scape come back to life with daffodils blooming, grass greening, and temperatures warming during late March into early April. As exciting as that can be, so many things need to be done to prepare for the warmer season, including spring cleaning, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors tested, and filters changed.
Here at the community, nothing says clean up the yard like receiving a rake in the mail for your birthday from a supervisor. (I wanted a smart watch or football tickets). We will put out cushions for the outdoor furniture and start to get our fountains going. I’m still hoping for that one good snow fall we didn’t get this year. I’m itching to use the snow shovel I received for last year’s birthday!
The greatest benefit of preparing for warmer weather is the psychological mood change it causes with staff and community when we start changing the look away from winter. Cushions and new mulch get us past that last month of winter-gray blues and just puts everyone in a good mood.
I’m anxious to get an electric power washer that will not only let me wash my external surfaces and vehicles, but the culinary staff will have an easier time cleaning their hood filters.
