Living Our Word in 2025

Category: Senior Living

Author: Amy Byergo, Executive Director

Choosing a “Word of the Year” is more than just a fun tradition. It is a powerful tool for focus and growth at The Westbury Senior Living. A single word can guide decisions, inspire action, and unite teams around a shared purpose. Reflecting on the chosen word offers insight into how it shaped culture, strengthened connections, and supported meaningful experiences for residents and staff. This end of year review allows us to celebrate successes, learn from challenges, and prepare for continued progress in the year ahead.

Building Balance Into Daily Operations

Our community embraced Balance as our Word of the Year by intentionally improving how we work together each day. Leadership focused on aligning workloads more thoughtfully so responsibilities were shared more evenly across the team. At the same time, accountability remained clear through feedback that was fair, firm, and consistent at every level.

As a result, the community experienced a healthier and more balanced culture. Team members felt supported while also being held accountable. Departments collaborated more closely, shared responsibility more willingly, and worked together as one unified team. Successes were celebrated, and mistakes became opportunities to learn rather than sources of frustration.

Lessons We Carry Forward

The most important lesson from this year is that consistent leadership sets the tone for balance. When expectations are clear and applied fairly, both residents and staff benefit. This approach creates stability, trust, and a supportive environment that allows people to do their best work.

As we look back on the impact of our Word of the Year at The Westbury Senior Living, it’s clear this simple concept can spark meaningful change. It has guided our priorities, strengthened our sense of community, and reminded us of the values that matter most. By reviewing the actions and outcomes connected to this word, we not only celebrate what we’ve accomplished but also identify opportunities for continued growth. Let’s carry these lessons forward as we prepare for the year ahead—because one word can truly make a difference when we live it every day.
