Expertise and Caring Like Family.

It isn’t clear what is more difficult – caring for a loved one with dementia or choosing the step of considering senior living. That’s why we want to start the conversation early and take the process slowly.

We believe peace of mind begins with confidence that your loved one is receiving quality care. That’s why our staff participates in ongoing training. Our goal is for you to have that peace of mind so you can step back from caregiving and start to be family again.

Memory Care Apartments

Memory Care at The Westbury is about maximizing every resident’s quality of life, hour-to-hour, day-to-day. Our apartments were designed with seniors in mind, ensuring simple and immediate access to all the necessities of life. Residents are able to move about freely, enjoying the company of friends and staff while having immediate access to their apartments whenever they want to return home.

Assigned Life Enrichment Coordinators

Trusting relationships between care givers and those with Alzheimer’s is the strong foundation needed for a fulfilled life. That’s why we pair life enrichment coordinators and residents as a team – so personalized bonds of trust and friendship can be developed over time. By interacting with the same set of residents consistently, we are able to focus on developing communication skills unique to each resident and strive to identify small changes in health and wellness.

We are sensitive to the need for a secure environment to care for the challenges memory care inevitably brings. From the ground-up, memory care at The Westbury was designed to provide that security and maximize independence and navigation without feeling restrictive.

Life Stations

Specialized activity stations, called Life Stations™, are strategically placed throughout our memory care cottage to promote engagement opportunities. The Life Stations resemble specific aspects of life in order to encourage engagement and interaction. Our Life Enrichment Coordinators also create life boxes that are specific to each resident!

As a caregiver, engaging a loved one with memory loss can seem like a constant, impossible task and many times the only option can feel like limiting the senior’s activity. That’s where senior living really shines – by putting all of the pieces together we are taking on the difficult tasks to ensure that residents are engaged with life in their unique way.

Specialized Dining

At The Westlake, we know that lack of proper nutrition only exacerbates a bad health situation. It is an especially prevalent problem for those with advancing dementia, as changing tastes and appetites can make it hard for them to eat. Our carefully crafted dining program engages the individual and their senses in order to rouse the appetite so that residents stay fed and strong.

Things that were once routine are no longer so when suffering from Alzheimer’s. That’s why The Westlake makes sure that every day residents of Memory Care receive assistance with grooming so they are ready to face the day. Small things like a simple comb or washing the face can make a world of difference towards feeling like yourself again. Additionally, Memory Care residents take regular trips to the salon at no extra cost!

Providing care for residents with dementia is a highly specialized skill – one that we develop with best courses in empathy, communication, and personal care.

It is vitally important when providing care for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia to be equipped with the most up-to-date knowledge and proven effective techniques, not to mention a drive to care for those in need. These individuals work tirelessly to ensure that residents with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other forms of memory loss live in the best possible home with care that goes above and beyond what family members expect.
